Preparing For Your Visit

Whether you’re checking in for treatment or stopping by to see a loved one, welcome to York Hospital! We’ll do all we can to make your visit a pleasant one. Please read through the following information to set yourself up for a comfortable, convenient stay.

What patients should bring

To help ensure a comfortable hospital stay, consider bringing the following items:

  • Personal toiletries, such as shampoo, toothpaste, and toothbrush. (Don’t want to bring them? No worries. We do supply these.)
  • Bathrobe and slippers or socks.
  • A list with names, doses, and schedules of all medications you take on a routine basis. (Do NOT take any of your own medications while you are in the hospital unless your doctor writes an order for you to take them.)
  • Glasses, dentures, hearing aids, or other assistive devices you may need. Please ask the nurse for a container to protect these items, and label them with your name if possible. We’re not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Any instructions your physician may have provided.
  • Advance directives: You have the right to make informed decisions about your healthcare, including the right to refuse treatment offered to you. You may also give directions, in advance, about your medical care should the time come when you can’t communicate your wishes to others. This is called an “advance directive.” If you have an advance directive, such as a living will or durable power of attorney for healthcare, please bring it with you. If you don’t and wish to create one, you can download the form on our Care Management page.

What visitors should know

York Hospital doesn’t have set visiting hours. Family members and friends are welcome to visit when it’s convenient for the patient, and we encourage you to do so! When visiting a semi-private room, please be considerate of both patients and be mindful that there are occasional quiet times so patients can rest during the day.

If hospitalization was unexpected and you’re scrambling to find lodging, call the York Hospital Concierge Desk at extension 2094 for a list of local accommodations.
